Dear Grandma,
Happy birthday to you! Hope it’s filled with friends and joy and good food!
Enjoyed our visit so much and was so happy to see you both in good spirits and health. Thanks for the nice note! I got it in the mail the other day.
I am sitting at RDU airport right now about to board a plane to Toronto, which will then take me to Shanghai! From there I’ll have a car pick-up to Duke Kunshan University, about 2 hours away by car (and only 20 minutes by high-speed train!). My flight is about 15 hours from Toronto to Shanghai, but I get to fly “business class,” which means I get a lie-flat seat and all kinds of cool goodies.
Yesterday, I picked up a cat from the Durham shelter! I had found him a few weeks ago hanging around my apartment and brought him to the shelter. I left him there with instructions for them to call me if they couldn’t adopt him out. So they called me and said he had conjunctivitis and diarrhea so they couldn’t keep him. I got him yesterday and brought him straight to the vet. (He’s fine. The vet thinks he’ll recover on his own without any drugs even.) Tom will take care of him while I’m gone. He is probably still hiding somewhere in Tom’s house right now. He didn’t want to come out much last night, but he did use the litter box. Hopefully, he’ll be a good kitty. I didn’t really want a cat, but I think I have one now!
Love you and miss you both! Happy birthday again!
Love,
Sonja
